Operating Systems: The Battle Rages on

I've never understood the "which one is better" debate over operating systems. The entire concept of the debate is asinine. Sure everyone can have a preference, but the whole point and specialties of the various systems allow them to all be decent in their own little ways. Today, I'll look at these system's strengths and weaknesses.

Get Savaged - Savage World: Deluxe

My preorder for Savage Worlds: Deluxe has arrived.  The book is a full-sized hard-bound (vice Explorer size).  I've been pouring over this version and can say I'm hooked.

The only issue will be converting to the new system will take some time.

Free RPG Day

Saturday June 18th is the annual Free RPG Day.  If you're a tabletop gamer or would like to take a crack at the wonders of tabletop gaming stop by your nearby RPG realtor and get a free game you can take home and play.

All the games come with quick play rules, so just stop by.  While you're there give your local realtor some business and get some dice for your new game! (since the only thing not included would be the dice)

This is a great way to try the tabletop RPG hobby without shelling out too much money.  I recommend everyone to head to a participating store.

If you can't get one of these games provided by the leading tabletop RPG developers, that's OK!  Most RPG stores have a play floor and likely you can jump in on the many games running there.  You just need dice, a pencil and a piece of paper or two.

See you at the gaming store!

Star Wars Online: The Old Republic or How to Lose Friends in One Blog Post

Star Wars Online is shaping up to be the next big MMO release this year.  Looking at the concepts planned Bioware is piping out very interesting concepts.  One of the big ones includes your own posse of NPCs, not unlike one of the single player games that they are known for.

The game has many things going for it:
- One of the most recognized IPs (Intellectual Properties) around
- Sci-Fi is a relatively untapped market with only Star Wars Galaxies (defunct), Star Trek Online and EvE Online as major contenders.
- The game is chronologically in a timeframe where there would be numerous Jedi... unlike Galaxies.
- It is being created by Bioware.  The company that has created many classic games based in Forgotten Realms (Neverwinter Nights) and Star Wars (Knights of the Old Republic).
- There are a variety of new concepts in the game to make the playability new and interesting.

Also, if you really like the game and are anticipating it here's a video.

All of these seem so wonderful it must be bound to succeed right?

WoW and Rift

Due to a long absence from WoW, I have decided that... well, I'm bored of it.  So, my short break became an extended one, then I sort of quit.

I'm not sure if it was the boring gear grind, the time required to do a dungeon, the boredom of the same PvP, or the fact that the new expansion seemed a bit lack luster in the end.  Hell, it could even be the fun I was having with my daughter that was better, then circling a zone over and over for ore.

So, I was sans game for weeks, but then there's Rift...
